Am I looking at some job specific grapple?

You are. It’s for moving large round hay bales. To grip them without damaging the plastic if they wrapped for storage or to make hayli ge.

Ahhh. Gotcha. I’m new to the tractor world. Learning  the proper names of implements and parts is a doozy.

It is commonly called a “bale grabber” or “bale grapple” with ot without the “round” modifyer depending on who’s talking (younger farmers often omit the “round”, but not always) you would need either a “third function” or “power beyond” depending on your hydraulic-system-terminology. This one mounts to the loader via the Alö-type quick-connect, often refered to as the Euro/Global mount (of important note: many John Deere loader systems have a quick-mount system that is functionally the same as the Euro/Global/Alö system, but is not mechanically compatible with it, or indeed, eac h other)

It’s like most of that was in a language I understood and then you had to go use the umlauts.

Thanks for the info. Mine doesn’t have a third function, apparently I can add it, but I don’t have a need for a grapple or four in one bucket. I’d like to have both but there’s that, you know, money aspect to everything.

yes, money is a thing... I actually added my own third function valve (the control stick was already wired for it). It was significantly cheaper (~$400 vs ~$ 2000) than buying the factory valve kit. Though It does require some technical skill to install... than again, if you don’t need it, you don’t need it.
